Phonemic Awareness Seminar-Workshops in Cebu

Phonemic Awareness is the buzz word. A child’s level of Phonemic Awareness strongly predicts their future success in learning to read. Teachers, parents and everyone involved in educating children should have heard and are aware of this. A lot of educators and education experts in the US, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Spain, etc. are convinced of the importance of supporting the children’s phonemic awareness.

I was very fortunate to have been selected and trained  on a 6-weekend Seminar-Workshop on Phonemic Awareness at Jemicy School in Maryland, USA last June, 2010.  Jemicy School educates students with dyslexia or other language based learning difficulties.  With nearly 40 years of experience, Jemicy School is the premier source for Phonemic Awareness activities and other literacy strategies in teaching reading.

I have shared this valuable information and strategies through a couple of Phonemic Awareness Seminar-Workshops I conducted in Cebu last 2011 and 2012.

seminar1

This was at St. Theresa’s College, Cebu City with some of the participants. Introducing themselves using the “think-pair-share” strategy that I taught. I brought many manipulatives to be used for the phonemic awareness activities that day.

seminar2

The participants trying out the different activities and even got their chance of assessing their own Phonological Awareness.
What exactly is Phonemic Awareness? What strategies and activities are we to teach our children to assure their success in reading?
If you wish to join one of my seminar-workshops or would like to invite me as a resource speaker for teaching and parenting, please send me an email at marrylallwrite@yahoo.com or mgerojo@gmail.com.
